  • Stop the Steal Ottobre 5, 2024
Giagetti et al. report that 4.2% of patients with dialysis access created at their institution developed Dialysis-Associated Steal Syndrome (DASS) requiring re-intervention (1).They did not however identify the demographic or conventional risk factors for DASS in these patients nor did they detail their preoperative evaluation protocol, anastomotic technique or types of revisional procedures performed for […]

  • Heirs of Halstead Ottobre 5, 2024
As Dr. Buchanan and colleagues have shown in their excellent study1, our understanding of the pathways to surgical competence continues to evolve more than 100 years after William Stewart Halstead created the modern model of surgical training. Halstead finished his internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York in 1877 and found no further opportunities for […]

  • National Trends and Outcomes of Pedal Bypass Surgery Ottobre 3, 2024
The technical demands associated with pedal bypass (PB) surgery place it at risk of underutilization and may be limiting its widespread adoption as a valuable revascularization modality. This study aims to evaluate trends in PB performance, assess its outcomes, and compare its results between high- and low-volume centers.

  • Female Patients Have Fewer Limb Amputations Compared to Male Patients in the BEST-CLI Trial Ottobre 3, 2024
Female patients are less likely to be diagnosed with and treated for peripheral artery disease. When treated, there are also reported sex disparities in short- and long-term outcomes. We designed this study to compare outcomes after open and endovascular revascularization in the Best Endovascular versus best Surgical Therapy in patients with Critical Limb Ischemia (BEST-CLI) […]

  • Open Aneurysmorraphy Following Branched and Fenestrated Endovascular Repair of Complex Thoracic Aneurysms Ottobre 3, 2024
We present a review of our hybrid management (endovascular + open surgery) of large thoracic aortic aneurysms (>80mm). The strategy comprises a primary endovascular repair using Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR), and/or Fenestrated and Branched endografts (FBEVAR), followed by open thoracotomy and aneurysmorraphy, specifically without the need for aortic cross-clamping.

  • Better limb staging in chronic limb-threatening ischemia: Why it matters Ottobre 1, 2024
Staging systems are commonly used in disease management, where they serve four primary functions: They inform prognosis, optimize the selection of treatment strategies, facilitate comparative effectiveness research, and can be used to define resource allocation and reimbursements. Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) represents the most advanced stage of peripheral artery disease (PAD), impacting ≤11% of the […]
