The liposterolic extract highly titrated (85-95% in free fatty acids and sterols) of the berries of Serenoa repens contained in soft capsules (pearl) of Sinprost contains sterols, free fatty acids (FFA), carotenoids, essential oils and polysaccharides. It has been demonstrated that this extract support the physiological testicular function and helps to eliminate the mucous membranes irritation of the genito-urinary tract and prostate; it also acts specifically in the prostatic cell limiting cell proliferation, responsible for prostate enlargement. In prostate the liposterolic extract performs an anti-androgen selective activity wich is carried out through the selective antagonism of the link between dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and androgen receptor; an anti-inflammatory and anti-edema activity, a spasmolytic action on the muscles of the urinary tract result in reduction of the obstruction of the urethra, the estrogenic effect given by a strong decrease of estrogen receptors and inhibition of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase in its isoforms 5-alpha R1 and 5-alpha-R2, involved in the transformation of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the main responsible for prostatic hypertrophy, resulting in inhibition of proliferation of prostate cells.
